2017 was a FANTASTIC Whale Season!!!

Although total numbers were down from other seasons, this is cyclical and we still had more than enough whales to watch and nearly every trip of mine encountered friendly whales.

Our new trips with La-Mar Tours out at the mouth were a huge success with the lobster and fish lunches at the beach a real hit! It worked out great to do a day trip there and a half day at the Ejido inner lagoon the next day.

Here is a link to my favorite day on the lagoon this season from Feb.27th!!!! This whale opened it’s mouth to get his baleen rubbed!!!

This was the first year I used a GoPro camera and I am very excited about the footage I managed to get after I figured out how to use it. With the wide angle prospective, one can see much more than from just sitting in the panga. We can see how the mother nudges her calf up to the panga and how they twirl and dance! For the first time, we can see what the whales are doing under the water as they rub off their barnacles and push the pangas.

I have put together some short videos of some of our trips this year for our groups. I am also working on an educational Gray Whale video showing their behaviors and how they interact with people.
